Veterans Day – Honoring All Veterans Today and Every Day

Nov 10, 2017

Image of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial - Veterans DayEvery November 11th we honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, whether it be in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, National Guard, or Coast Guard. This Veterans Day, The Patriots Initiative would like to thank all those, past and present, who dedicate their lives to protecting our country’s freedoms. The month of November has been dedicated as Military Family Month. We thank those husbands, wives, parents, children, and siblings who provide support from the home front, enduring separation, frequent moves, and other challenges, but nevertheless remaining resilient, helping to bestow strength upon our service members.

History of Veterans Day

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, marking the first anniversary of the end of World War I. It wasn’t until 1954 that the day was renamed Veterans Day under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans – living or dead – giving thanks to those who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. Today the United States has over 1.2 million active-duty service members and over 800,000 in its reserve forces.

How You Can Make a Difference

Every day, The Patriots Initiative dedicates itself to improving the quality of life for active duty military, veterans, and their families by engaging stakeholders to support nonprofit service providers that are the most qualified to fulfill those needs. TPI recognizes the dedication and sacrifices made by our armed forces and works to raise awareness to fill the gaps not covered by government programs in meeting the needs of our military veterans. Through four funds – the Wounded and Fallen Fund, the Warriors in Transition Fund, the Family Support Fund, and the TPI Discretionary Fund – TPI is able to help meet these needs and give back to those who have given so much for our country and its’ freedoms.
